WELCOME

If you are looking to purchase something more than the synthetic mass-produced products made with preprocessed materials by unskilled labor in huge factories in foreign countries, then you may be in the right place. If you believe that furniture, skillfully hand crafted from natural materials utilizing centuries old, old world joinery methods and techniques has a much higher intrinsic value, then I know you are in the right place. Sims & Company Woodworks specializes in creating one-of-a-kind beautiful handcrafted custom free standing and built in furniture. Hope you enjoy the website and please contact us with any questions or comments.

About Us

Full Custom Flexibility

Sims & Company Woodworks specializes in designing and building one-of-a-kind hand crafted custom furniture. Primarily a one man shop, Jack Sims works closely with his clients to perfect a design with the individual’s taste in mind. With over thirty years experience, he thoroughly enjoys the collaborative effort involved in developing a design with the client and then building furniture that they can enjoy and pass down through their family. Jack spends as much time as is necessary with you the customer, to perfect a design that fulfills your needs while reflecting your style and personality. He utilizes Autodesk’s AutoCad Architectural Desktop, which is the industries recognized leader in computer aided drafting software for preliminary and final working drawings.  This allows him to respond quickly and easily with multiple design changes and "what if" scenarios.  Then by carefully selecting the species of exotic or domestic hard-woods, (frequently using a combination of both) the character of the piece is further defined.

Craftmanship

While it is customary today to out source certain elements of cabinetry such as doors and drawers, Jack refuses to follow that trend. He custom builds every piece of the project from raised panel stile and rail doors, to hard maple drawers with 100% hand cut or machine cut  dovetail joinery.  This approach allows him complete control over the quality of the craftsmanship and the selection of the wood used. Essential to his designs is the attention he pays to the small details, something that is missing in production line furniture and cabinetry. Jack’s passion and enormous pride in his work is reflected in the quality of the fine furniture pieces he builds.
Jack never uses inferior quality products such as fiberboard, particle board, melamine, etc.  He only uses FAS (first and second) grade domestic and exotic hardwoods and matching veneer core furniture grade plywood where appropriate.  Since he is mostly a one man shop with low overhead, he can usually build something to your requirements that is less costly than store bought and of course with far greater quality.

Quality

My customers recognize the greater value of hand crafted furniture made from high quality hardwoods. They just aren’t interested in the disposable synthetic products that are here today and gone tomorrow. Solid, natural hardwoods, mortise and tenon joinery, time-honored old-world craftsmanship methods and techniques and passion and dedication to producing only the very best. These things combine to create a piece of furniture you will be proud to own and proud to pass on to future generations. I would like to thank my family for their patience and support, and of course my loyal customers who, together, have made it possible for me to do what I have a passion for.
